Sr. Cloud Architect
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Cloud Architect based in the United States.
This role is a senior technical leadership position responsible for shaping and governing enterprise cloud architecture across a large-scale SaaS environment on AWS. You will define how cloud-native systems are designed, secured, deployed, and optimized to ensure scalability, resilience, and operational excellence. Working closely with engineering, product, security, and cloud operations teams, you will translate complex business and technical requirements into robust, reusable cloud solutions. The role combines hands-on architectural design with strategic governance, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory standards. You will play a key part in driving modernization, automation, and cost efficiency across the cloud ecosystem. This is a highly influential position suited for an architect who thrives at the intersection of innovation, security, and enterprise-scale engineering.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native SaaS architectures on AWS.
- Define and maintain enterprise cloud architecture standards, reference architectures, and reusable design patterns.
- Create and govern architectural blueprints covering infrastructure, application design, and data flow across systems.
- Establish and enforce cloud governance frameworks, including guardrails, policies, and architectural principles.
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and related frameworks.
- Drive adoption of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automation, and modern CI/CD practices to improve delivery efficiency.
- Architect cloud security solutions including IAM, encryption, network segmentation, and secure application design.
- Develop observability strategies using monitoring and logging tools to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Partner with engineering, product, security, and operations teams to align architecture with enterprise objectives.
- Lead technical governance reviews, mentor engineering teams, and guide architectural decision-making across projects.
- Support cloud cost optimization and ensure financially responsible architecture aligned with FinOps principles.
- Continuously evaluate and improve cloud systems to ensure scalability, resilience, and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in cloud architecture, solution architecture, or cloud engineering roles.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating solutions on AWS in enterprise SaaS environments.
- Deep expertise in AWS services including compute, storage, networking, serverless, and integration architectures.
- Strong knowledge of microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native design patterns.
- Proven experience implementing secure cloud architectures with IAM, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Strong familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and deployment automation.
- Experience with observability tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex distributed system challenges.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with experience influencing technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leadership experience mentoring engineers and guiding architecture across multiple teams or initiatives.
- Preferred: AWS Solutions Architect – Professional certification (or equivalent), plus additional AWS or DevOps certifications.
- Preferred: Experience with FinOps practices, cost modeling, and ROI analysis for cloud solutions.
- Preferred: Familiarity with AWS Well-Architected Framework and AI/ML services such as AWS Bedrock.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-project SaaS environment.
