The Opportunity:

Lead the Future of Cyber Security at KPMG New Zealand

As our Head of Security, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding KPMG New Zealand’s information, technology, and digital assets. This strategic leadership position is responsible for driving our cyber security capability, ensuring robust security operations, governance, risk management, and assurance frameworks that protect the firm and enable business success.

Working closely with the NITSO as their delegate, you’ll help shape and advance our information security programme, strengthening its maturity, resilience, and regulatory compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to influence security strategy at an enterprise level, champion best practice, and build a culture of security across a leading professional services organisation.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead and shape KPMG New Zealand’s cyber security strategy, ensuring our information, technology and digital assets remain secure, resilient and protected.
  • Drive a strong security posture through effective security operations, proactive threat and vulnerability management, and a robust incident response capability.
  • Provide governance, oversight and assurance for the firm’s information security programme, acting as a trusted delegate to the National Information Technology Security Officer (NITSO).
  • Champion security by design, embedding security requirements across technology platforms, business processes and third-party services to strengthen resilience and effectively manage risk.
  • Influence strategic decision-making by delivering expert security advice, insightful reporting and recommendations that support continuous improvement across the firm.
  • Build, inspire and lead a high-performing cyber security team, fostering a culture of accountability, capability development and security awareness throughout the organisation.

What you will bring to our team:

  • 5+ years relevant IT security management experience.
  • Broad experience and knowledge of IT security with a particular focus on security operations, vulnerability assessments, security risk management, security assurance and compliance.
  • Infrastructure management & understanding including cloud based operations (Azure).
  • A relevant tertiary qualification with CISSP and CISM qualifications (preferred).
  • Confident, proactive and ‘can do’ approach.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and manage people to get the best outcomes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think innovatively.
