Head of Resilience Assurance
Job Description
Purpose of the role
To partner with the bank, to provide independent insurance on control processes and advise on improvements to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls framework.
Accountabilities
- Collaboration across the bank to maintain a satisfactory, robust, and efficient control environment through the execution of ad-hoc assessments and testing on the design and operational effectiveness of the internal controls, aligned to control policies and standards.
- Development of detailed test plans and procedures to identify weaknesses in internal controls and other initiatives aligned to the bank’s control framework to mitigate any potential risks and issues, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations, potential losses, and reputational impact.
- Communication of key findings and observations to the relevant stakeholders and business units to improve overall control efficiency and provide corrective actions to senior managers. Collaboration with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank.
- Development of a knowledge centre containing detailed documentation of control assessments, testing on design and operational effectiveness of procedures, findings, and the distribution of material on internal controls to train and upskill colleagues within the bank.

To be successful as Head of Resilience Assurance you should have experience with:
- Lead the delivery of Resilience Assurance consultancy and strategic guidance across complex technology portfolios
- Provide senior-level expertise in technology resilience principles across cloud, network, data, infrastructure and application domains, translating technical resilience risks into business and executive-level outcomes.
- Set direction for the assessment of High Availability designs against service level objectives, including availability targets, RTO, RPO, dependency mapping and recovery sequencing for critical services.
- Partner with senior technology specialists, platform owners and business stakeholders to shape and deliver resilient IT solutions that support business strategy and maintain strong stakeholder confidence.
- Drive proactive engagement with technology change teams and senior clients, ensuring resilience requirements are understood, embedded and evidenced throughout the change lifecycle.
- Own and govern assurance engagements from planning through to risk identification, challenge, remediation tracking and senior-level sign-off for resilience outcomes.
- Ensure solutions are consistently assessed against bank resilience standards, control requirements and risk appetite, while identifying opportunities to improve assurance effectiveness and consistency.
- Act as a senior Resilience authority and trusted advisor to business and technology leadership on resilience strategy, control expectations and risk-based decision making.
- Lead escalations and complex case management, coordinating SMEs and senior stakeholders to resolve material resilience risks and drive timely outcomes.
- Influence stakeholders to ensure residual risks are appropriately articulated, accepted, remediated or mitigated in line with business risk appetite and governance expectations.
- Contribute to the strategic direction, maturity and continuous improvement of Technology Resilience Consultancy services across the wider organization.
- Establish, maintain and leverage senior relationships with key technology, change and business leaders to influence resilience strategy, prioritization and investment decisions.
- Collaborate with senior and executive peers across global IT functions to strengthen resilience controls, improve service outcomes and embed accountability across technology domains.
- Build and sustain an effective network across service, platform, architecture, risk and control teams to promote early engagement and joined-up resilience decision making.
- Champion innovation, knowledge sharing and continuous learning to improve resilience practices, tooling and assurance capability.
- Represent Technology Resilience in cross-functional change programmes, governance forums and business area meetings, ensuring resilience considerations are embedded in strategic decisions and delivery outcomes.

- Lead globally distributed teams, setting strategic direction, driving accountability, and ensuring consistent delivery of resilience outcomes across complex technology portfolios.
- Advanced understanding of clustering, replication and service continuity patterns, including active-active and active-passive architectures across business-critical platforms.
- Ability to challenge and influence database and storage resilience strategies, including synchronous and asynchronous replication, backup recovery integration and recovery consistency across complex services.
- Strong understanding of network High Availability concepts, including load balancing, DNS failover, zone or region redundancy and resilient traffic routing for critical business services.
- Hands-on or oversight experience across middleware technologies, with the ability to identify resilience risks, dependencies and operational recovery considerations.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and customers to deliver resilient, cost-effective solutions that reduce risk, avoid rework and support long-term service sustainability.
- Provide direction, challenge and coaching to change stakeholders to ensure resilience is designed, evidenced and maintained throughout the lifecycle.
- Lead product and project resilience reviews across the system development lifecycle, clearly articulating material resilience risks, control gaps and recommended actions to senior stakeholders.
- Partner with change delivery teams, architecture, risk and control functions to identify, track and govern resilience requirements, ensuring the delivery of resilient systems aligned to enterprise standards.
